Constraints
Constraints fix how sketch geometry relates: lines stay horizontal, points stay together, circles stay equal. Together with dimensions they make a sketch fully defined.
Access: Sketch mode toolbar. Select the geometry first, then click the constraint.
| Constraint | Select | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Coincident | Two points, or a point and a curve | The points meet, or the point lies on the curve |
| Horizontal | Lines, or two points | Horizontal lines, or points at the same height |
| Vertical | Lines, or two points | Vertical lines, or points one above the other |
| Parallel | Two or more lines | The lines are parallel |
| Perpend. | Two lines | The lines are at 90 degrees |
| Tangent | A line and a circle or arc, or two circles or arcs | They touch smoothly |
| Equal | Lines, or circles and arcs | Equal lengths, or equal radii |
| Midpoint | A point and a line | The point is in the middle of the line |
| Symmetric | Two points and a line | The points mirror each other across the line |
| Fix | Points or curves | They cannot move; click again to free them |
If the selection does not fit, the panel says what to select.
Over-constrained sketches
A constraint or dimension that contradicts the others is refused with This would over-constrain the sketch. Nothing was changed. Delete or change one of the existing constraints first.
