Auxiliary views
An auxiliary view looks square to an inclined face, so the face shows at its true size and shape: a sloped flat, a chamfer, a bracket bent at an angle. You pick the face's edge where a view shows it edge on, as a line, and the auxiliary view looks across that line. It follows the part: when the angle changes, the view turns with it.
Access: select a front, top or side view, then Auxiliary in the toolbar.
Make an auxiliary view
- Select the view where the inclined face is seen edge on, then click Auxiliary.
- Click the face's edge: the straight line that is the face in this view.
- Click on the side of the line from which the view should look, where the view goes.
An arrow with the view's letter on the parent shows where it looks from; the caption reads B on ISO drawings and VIEW B on ASME drawings. Look from the other side in the view's properties turns it round.
Troubleshooting
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Pick a straight edge: the face the view should look square to, seen edge on | Click a line of the view, not a circle or a silhouette. |
| The edge this auxiliary view looks square to is gone | The part changed and the edge no longer exists: delete the view and make it again from the new edge. |
