An assembly exports as one STEP file with each part once and named instances of it, and each subassembly as an assembly of its own inside it. STEP files hold shapes and the colours of finishes; STL files hold shapes only. They cannot be edited as features, so keep the .cadpack file too.
A leather pattern exports at 1:1 with the layers cut, stitch, fold, marks and text.
A DXF or SVG file imports into a template as its title block.
Import a STEP file brings its solids into a part as bodies, up to 50 MB; on a project page an assembly file becomes its parts and assemblies. A .cadpack file of a part includes the STEP files it imports.
